Help When You Need It!
What did you first think when you received the breast cancer diagnosis? Did you agonize over it? Do you agonize over it still?
I know I did. I remember thinking…what did I do to warrant this diagnosis? I tried to live right, eat right (mostly vegan), and exercise. I had seen others miraculously healed. Did God love me less? Did I sin and this was punishment? I did not want to go thru treatment, definitely not chemotherapy. I even paid $5,000 to a clinic where a doctor said what I wanted to hear, namely, that I did not need chemotherapy or radiation. I just needed to eat right!
Jesus said, as He was facing Calvary’s cross, He prayed saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My Will, but always Yours be done.” And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in Spirit. [Luke 22:42-43]
When we face these moments in life- when we come face to face with a life-threatening crisis, and when we face certain pain and suffering, we face a decision- Your Will, God or my will?
There is a peace in the place of surrendering our lives to the One that made us, our Creator. He comes to help, strengthen and comfort us in our time of need.
I fought it, I agonized over it. I finally made a decision after much prayer, as well as counsel from loving family and friends…and a surgeon that pulled a “sister act” in love. The surgeon got in my face and stated in love “A salad is not going to change your diagnosis”. There was something about the way she said it that caused me to take what she was saying seriously. I finally surrendered to the process. I surrendered to the life altering journey of treatment. There was this still small voice, an inner knowing, that I would have to go thru this process.
The Bible says that Jesus being in agony of mind, He prayed (all the) more earnestly and intently and His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.
Hebrews 4:15-16. For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities. Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in good time for every need (appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it.)
Jesus will be there for You. He will never leave or forsake you. He brought me peace and solace when I needed it most.
1 Peter 5:10. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace (Who imparts all blessing and favor), who has called you to His own eternal glory in Christ Jesus will Himself complete and make You what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely and strengthen and settle you.
Surrender to the Lord. Triumph over fear! Be strengthened and settled today. Get the help, peace and comfort that’s yours. Be a “Mo Betta Girl” in Him. Go and Conquer Your World!
